The Print Shop

A collection of printing equipment, some still in operational order. This collection includes an 1870s Wharfdale flat bed cylinder press used to produce the Mirboo North Times from the 1880s to 1973, an 1890 Chandler and Price platen press and an 1870 Aulmerdahl Traden platen press. There is also a working Kluge platen printing press that can be demonstrated. Gippsland’s first newspaper was the Gippsland Guardian at the commercial centre of Port Albert, which began in 1855. Before that, the province relied on newspapers from Hobart and Melbourne for their news.
